The children were told to be on their guard when herding sheep near Røseknuten, especially in the dark and during thunderstorms. At one place on the mountain there is the imprint of a foot, and this foot is called the «Røsefoot»; this is where the troll trod. It is further told that the troll stepped so far that he had to sit down. The other footprint and the mark left by the sack he was carrying are out in Tveitemarka in Hunnedalen. The sack was a checkered hay-sack, and one can see the marks of the knots on the sack where he set it down.
Route description: From the car park at Ålsheia Alpint, walk up the road to the ski centre. By the warming hut, turn right across the bridge and continue along the road into Bekkedalen. At the end of Bekkedalen, turn left across the bridge towards Tjødnestøl. You will see Stølstjødn on your right-hand side; continue along the road to the next bridge. Shortly after crossing the bridge, leave the road and turn left (south-westerly direction) between the cabins and head up the hillside. The path runs parallel to the left side of the stream upwards. You pass a marsh and a tarn. The path continues up onto a small rise, from which you can see Nyestøl and the ski lifts there. The walk then continues between the ski lift installations and up the ski slope in Bekkedalen.
Where the trail splits, keep right onto the narrow ski trail, before crossing the stream and following the trail up on the right-hand side of the stream. The trail takes you to another ski lift, the Koplingsheisen. Go past on the lower side of the control cabin/hut. On the flat section after Koplingsheisen, cross Nyestølbekken back to the left side and follow the narrow path up onto a little knoll. You pass a couple of tarns on your right before the route gets steeper upwards. Follow the edge of Gunnarshei for about 10 minutes, then you can walk down to the stream and follow it back and forth depending on the terrain obstacles up through the gorge. At 870 metres, the terrain flattens out a bit; here you turn left towards the nearest power line pylons. Cross both lines, on the north side of the pylons. You will now see Litla Røsetjødn on your left and Valevatnet on your right. From here, set your course upwards in a south-westerly direction for the final stretch up to the summit.
