Falkeknuten

Route description:
The trip to Falkeknuten starts at Hompland, 7 km north of Tonstad. Here you follow the signs towards Steindalsknuten. First across pastureland and up an old bridleway near the Heimså river. You come onto a tractor road that leads in to Steian. Here you turn left and continue up the gravel road until you see a sign from the road and onto the path along the eastern side of Øvre Løyntjønn. Here you have to cross a bog before heading up to Heimrestøl. From there the landscape becomes more open, the tree line is passed a little further up and you have then gone from the valley's spruce forest, through pine forest at Løyntjønn, the mountain birch belt and reached the flat mountain heath. Here the trip continues up Grønheia towards Steindalsknuten. The path towards Falkeknuten branches off 800 m before Steindalsknuten and continues for 3.5 km further across Klovsteinheia and up the mountain ridge towards Falkeknuten. Here you have views over vast mountain areas in all directions.

The hike up from Hompland is 9.1 km and the difference in elevation is 766 m. The trail crosses sections of bog, and is signposted and waymarked. There are no steep or exposed sections.

The hike is demanding due to the distance; if you are to walk there and back from the valley, it is over 18 km.
