Route description:
From the car park, continue on foot along the narrow asphalt road. After about 10 minutes, the road splits; here you take a right onto a gravel road in a southerly direction. Follow the gravel road up through the cabin area, and after another 10 minutes' walk, the road ends at a private car park. From here, continue on the path upwards along the stream.

After about 10 more minutes of ascent the terrain flattens out, here the vegetation alternates between marsh and heather. In the middle of the flat area the path divides, here you should keep to the right. Cross the marsh at the northern tip of Mågevatnan and walk along the northern Mågevatnet which you now have on your left hand. At the end of the northern lake, you turn eastwards (to the left) and follow the strait between the two Mågevatnan. You walk over a bridge, before turning southwards along the southern Mågevatnet which will now be on your right hand. At the end of the lake you come to a path junction, here you should walk southeastwards along the left side of the stream downwards. First on smooth rock, then across marsh.
The path becomes somewhat indistinct as you cross into the marshy terrain.

After about 7 minutes' walk, turn left for a short distance until you see a cabin on your left. From here you continue southeast around a small hill until you reach two mountain dairy buildings. From the dairy buildings you continue in the same direction up a small mountain pass until you reach a bog and the terrain flattens out. Turn north (left) onto a good, narrow path up Budalsrinnen. You pass a small tarn on your right, and after about 20 minutes' walk the path splits, where you turn southeast (right) along the edge of the mountain.

After about 10 minutes you leave the path, and from here it is a matter of finding the best route up the smooth-scoured rock to the summit, which is about a 20-minute walk in an easterly direction.
You see the magnificent cairn a little before the summit, and from here you have a 360-degree view of both the northern and southern Sirdal mountains, Kvinesdal, as well as Lyngdal far to the south.

Access:
From Tonstad town centre, drive in the direction of Josdal. Park in the designated car park at Josdalstippen, which is on the right-hand side after you have passed Indre Skjørbutjødn. Remember to pay for parking as indicated.
