Free store – borrow everything for the trip
Frilager is a voluntary organisation founded in 2017 and run by the Stavanger Trekking Association, Jæren Friluftsråd, Ryfylke Friluftsråd and Vesterlen Scout District.
The equipment we lend out is provided by organisations, scout groups and municipalities in our region. We care for, maintain, wash, dry, pack and deliver the equipment you wish to borrow and collect it again after use. And that is how our days go.
Activity locations
We have placed equipment readily available at 21 activity locations throughout the region. This is equipment suited to the area and the time of year. Here in Sirdal, we have an activity location at Ådneram with 20 bikes and 12 canoes for loan. Bicycle helmets, paddles and buoyancy aids are included, and you automatically get access to these when booking bikes or canoes. You can book well in advance or you can borrow spontaneously if the weather is good and you suddenly fancy going out for a trip. In the wintertime, we have mountain skis, ski boots and poles for loan here. New for this year is that you can pay with Vipps and receive user information and codes sent via text message immediately afterwards.
Collection points
You can order equipment at our activity locations or you can order equipment from our large online warehouse. Here we have over 5,000 products available for loan every day, all year round. If you order equipment from the «online warehouse location», you will get several options for collection points when you click «proceed» from the shopping basket. You choose a collection point near you. It is free to use the collection points, and you return the equipment to the same place after use. A code lock for the door will be sent to you by email the day before collection. In this way, you can collect and return whenever it suits you, you are not dependent on any opening hours. For all equipment from the online warehouse, there is a 2-day order time. We need time to pack and transport the equipment to where you want to collect it.
Registration
To be able to order equipment on frilager.no, you must be registered as a user. Initially, you register as an individual, and you will then be given the opportunity to link yourself to a voluntary organisation or business. You can have a personal account and still be linked to both your workplace and one or more voluntary organisations. You switch between these in 'My Page' depending on who you are borrowing on behalf of. It says under your name in the top right-hand corner who you are ordering on behalf of. Make sure that you choose the correct role for the relevant order. This is because the prices at Frilager are tiered. Individuals and businesses pay a little more than schools, associations and clubs.
Outdoor Life History:
Frilager was started on the basis that voluntary organisations were failing to keep track of their equipment. There were many internal arguments when a tent was missing a pole, or a hammock hadn't been dried for the next user. To solve this, Frilager was created. The organisations also wanted more people to be able to use the equipment. The equipment is often sponsored by foundations, which want as many people as possible to benefit from it. Much of the equipment would often only be used once a month, and then sit gathering dust the rest of the time. By making the equipment more accessible, usage could be increased and more people could be gotten out on trips.
Frilager officially opened in June 2017. There are now a full 29 organisations that have contributed equipment to get more people out on trips. We collaborate with 7 different municipalities where we supply free equipment to all municipal departments.
Frilager is growing steadily.
In 2017 we lent out 1914 products, whereas in 2020 we hired out 10606.
In the summer of 2020, we lent out 3,880 canoes.
We look forward to an even greater increase in the years to come!
