Grubba

A great trip that suits all levels, which can easily be combined with a day at Fidjeland ski resort or as an afternoon trip. The trip starts at the car park for the cross-country ski trails at Fidjeland. Feel free to check the trail map in the magazine. Walk up from Smølåsen, across the bridge leading towards Finnstøl. There are several trails both up and down to/from Grubbå.

Often you can ski down the same route you walked up, and try your hand at it if you are a beginner. The trip takes about 2.5 hours, the elevation change is about 500 metres, where the highest point is 1,184 metres above sea level.

Storeknut
A family-friendly ski touring trip that suits most people. This is a summit tour with multiple descent options. The trip can be combined with a visit to Røseknuten. Parking is at the top of Gravassryggen, and you start the tour at “Vonde vegen”, though it is recommended to walk around and up the back to make the ascent a bit easier. “Vonde vegen” is a great route to ski down. You can also take the chairlift in Tjørhomfjellet and walk from the top to Storeknut. The trip takes about 1.5 hours, the elevation gain is around 380 metres, and the highest point is 1,015 metres above sea level.

Little Grohei and Grohei
Parking at Lortabu in Hunnedalen. Walk across the flat area and upwards in the direction of Grohei. The ascent is gradual towards a knoll at 910 masl, where you keep to the south side of the knoll and walk towards Litle Grohei, which is 1,120 masl. Enjoy the fantastic view before the descent. It is recommended to walk to Grohei as well. The descent can be made the same way as the ascent, or via Grodalen. The trip takes about 2 hours, the elevation gain is approximately 350 metres, and the highest point is 1,022 masl. Nearby and elsewhere in Hunnedalen, there are many exciting summit hikes. Remember to bring the necessary equipment, and be aware of avalanche danger.

Remember to always check varsom.no for avalanche forecasts and be prepared for the trip you are taking. Read up in advance and make assessments along the way in the terrain!

Also recommend the Topptur i Sørvest book – you can buy this at Sirdal Sport & Friluft, amongst other places.
