Start:
The hike starts by Lyseveien, between Sirdal and Lysebotn, around a kilometer west for Grydalen. You can park by Børsteinshyttens parking spot, found at the opposite side of the road, relative to the path.
Description:
Start your trek towards the north-west. After around 5 minutes you should arrive at a creek running down from Matupstjødne. Follow this up towards Matupstjødne, where the path will follow a small elevation on the south side of the pond. Gradually you will climb towards the paths highest point and by 970 meters above sea level you will be presented with an incredible view towards the Lyseheiane. From here you can start the descent towards Andersvatnet. First you must criss-cross down the hill, towards a mountain road, which you should then follow along the mountain side, with Vardekleivane on your right side. After about 100 meters you should cross the creek running down to Andersvatnet. The path will continue towards the west, the terrain flattening, and it can be quite challenging to keep your bearings. Therefore, you should follow the markings and the GPS, if you brought one. You will pass by more ponds before arriving at a hillside that will take you down towards Pollen. The path will criss-cross down the hill and you should have a beautiful view of the water fall, running down from Toknuten. At the bottom you will cross the creek coming down from Andersvatnet. From here the path will continue up until you arrive at a valley that you should follow up. Towards the top of the valley the tall mountain tops of Lysedalen will be on your right hand side and you will get a teaser of what you have to look forward to later down the road. Lysedalen is one of the region's wildest valleys, with its 800-900 meters steep hillsides. At the end of the valley, continue till you arrive at a lush, green spot with fresh mountain water. This spot is well suited for a stop. Follow the creek onwards down to where it turns 90 degrees around the mountains, down towards Lysedalen. As the creek turns to the north, you should do the same, estimating around 1,5 hours walk down the steep mountain side. From around 420 meters above sea level, you will arrive at a birch wood. Here it can be challenging to find the path, as it criss-crosses between the trees. Look for stone cairns and red markings on the trees in the woods. After a while the path will turen 90 degrees towards the innermost farms you will see far down in Lysebotn. By 85 meters, take to your right towards the spot where you will cross the river by climbing over some large rocks. There is a wire attached to one of the rocks, making the crossing easy. Follow the river's right side westwards and you should arrive at a pasture for sheep, where you can go through a gate that leads you to the innermost farm in Lysebotn. Remember to close the gate and to use the stairs that has been placed in the terrain in order to cross the fence. After around a 100 meters you will arrive at another fence where you can pass through a gate to the parking spot by the farm.
